About Us
Funky Chunks Soap Company is located at the beautiful Jersey Shore. We are a small independent soap company owned and operated by Michele Rosta .
Funky Chunks specializes in Bastille soap Chunks made with 70% Olive Oil. The high olive oil content of our soaps make them very mild and pampering for your skin. All of our soap Chunks are highly scented and have luxurious lather.
We firmly believe in supporting and promoting small business in America. Our soaps can be found for sale in other small businesses in our local community. Because of our philosophy all of our soap making ingredients are purchased from other small businesses as well. We feel that they are the backbone of our economy and we wouldn't be in business ourselves without their support.
All of our soaps are 100% Vegan friendly. We never use any animal ingredients and our supplies are never animal tested. We use natural ingredients for our soaps and our ingredient list is very simple. In our soaps you will find:
Olive Oil - We only use virgin olive oil in our soaps. We never use low grade Pomace olive oil. Pomace oil is extracted from the olive by chemical means and we will never include it in our soaps.Virgin olive oil makes our soaps very mild and soothing to the skin. Olive Oil is an effective moisturizer that helps to reduce signs of skin aging due to it containing high concentrations of antioxidants and Vitamin E. Olive Oil is the main ingredient in our soaps and this is what makes our soap Chunks amazingly smooth and creamy.
Coconut Oil - We use only food grade coconut oil in our soaps. Coconut oil has antibacterial qualities and adds the luxurious lather that Funky Chunks Soaps are famous for. Coconut oil also contains natural emollients to moisturize your skin.
Palm Oil - Our Palm oil comes from renewable resources. Palm oil is rich in antioxidants and adds firmness to our soaps. Thanks to Palm oil our Chunks will last longer than softer handmade soaps.
Sesame Oil - Is the superstar of all oils. We add sesame oil to our hot processed soaps just before molding them to preserve it's anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties. In our opinion there is no oil that compares to sesame oil for giving you soft and supple skin. We absolutely love the stuff and we never make a batch of soap without it.
We use a combination of fragrance and essential oils to scent our soaps.
When it comes to coloring our soaps we use micas and mineral pigments only.
We use recycled paper and cardboards for our soap packaging. We also use recycled packaging when possible for shipping purposes. In our studio we use recycled and reclaimed items in our production. It is important to us to consciously reduce our carbon footprint.
Why use Handmade Soap?
Have you ever taken the time to read the list of ingredients on a bar of soap that has been mass produced? Chances are you will find some of the the following ingredients:
Sodium Tallowate - made from sodium hydroxide (better known as caustic soda or lye), steam, and animal (Ruminant, such as Adeps Bovis from cattle) fat (tallow).
Besides being an animal product, tallow has been known to clog pores and aggravate eczema for those individuals with sensitive skin.
Sodium Isethionate - a synthetic detergent added to commercial soaps to give them anti-static and lathering properties.
Sodium cocoyl isethionate - another synthetic detergent that reduces surface tension.
Tetrasodium EDTA - synthetic preservative known to be irritating to the eyes and mucous membranes.
Synthetic detergents and preservatives can irritate and dry out your skin. These synthetic ingredients can draw the moisture out of your skin.
Why would you want them in your soaps?
We feel that soap should pamper, moisturize and clean your skin with natural ingredients.
Handmade soaps do not contain any harsh chemicals. They are loaded with glycerin to pamper your skin. Often this glycerin is chemically removed form commercial soaps.
Once you try handmade soap you will never want to go back to a commercial bar again. The difference is truly that noticeable.
